In the beginning … 

In 2006, as a senior recruiter based in Singapore for Oracle Corporation, having an internal talent acquisition division that managed all recruitment needs end-to-end, from candidate sourcing, building talent pipelines to business partnering with hiring managers was a very new business model in Asia. Directly headhunting your competitors without using 3rd party recruitment consultants was a concept alien to organizations in Asia at that time and to a large extent even now.

Internal talent acquisition does it all!

Looking back, what we did at Oracle was revolutionary. The APAC staffing team lowered the recruitment expenditure without sacrificing the quality of candidates through a mix of great internal recruiters and good technology. I’ll always be grateful to my Oracle colleagues such as Jan, Guna, Pradeep and many others for allowing me to be part of an awesome team of passionate recruiters.

Recruiter training business

I started Hof Consulting in 2007. Why? I realized that formalized training for recruiters and HR executives involved in staffing was almost non-existent in Asia. Recruiters were generally thrown into the deep-end and told to source and interview candidates with little or no guidance. I saw an opportunity to use the systematic training I had as a 14-year veteran in the recruitment school of hard knocks.

The art of recruitment

I developed training modules based on my experience in 3rd party recruitment firms and internal staffing jobs. I’ve had great fun imparting what I learnt to recruiters in areas such as business partnering with hiring managers, client acquisition, the “dark” art of headhunting, social media recruiting, offer letter negotiations, recruitment auditing, employer branding, managing a recruitment team etc.

Since 2007, my clients include Motorola, GMP, Hewlett Packard, Citi, ABB, Singapore’s Ministry of Defense, Oman Airport Authority, Siemens, Starwood Hotels, Dimension Data (Datacraft) and many others.

Future plans

I hope this website will bring corporate recruiters together with 3rd party recruitment consultants into a community where ideas can be shared, discussed, and tested. The articles, comments and contributions from talent acquisition gurus in the emerging markets of China, India, Singapore, Australia, Korea, Indonesia and Asia-wide will hopefully generate fresh ideas for you.
